Accountability & Education Reform...

WEA special education boot camp back by popular demand

Get ready for five days of intense work on special education issues. Three five-day sessions will be held this summer across the state to provide focused information on the responsibilities of all educators working with children with disabilities. Paraeducator competencies 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 10 will be addressed.

Training dates are July 16–20 in Federal Way; July 30 to Aug. 3 in Vancouver and Aug. 6–10 in the Tri-Cities area. Exact locations will be determined soon. Class topics will cover state laws regarding special education, effective instruction, response to intervention, discipline, behavior interventions, individual education plans and transition to post-high school settings.

The trainings, presented by the WEA Special Education Cadre, are open to all school employees, parents, administrators and representatives from community agencies.

Three college credits or 30 clock hours are available. Registration is $250 and includes training materials and meals. For more information or a registration form, contact Janie Moxley at 800-622-3393, Ext. 7074.

Registration deadline is June 15.
